This Blog is Dedicated to Queen

This blog is dedicated to Queen and all of us wonderful, beautiful women of MM who need to start wearing purple now (or red) so that people are not shocked or surprised when we are old and start to wear purple!

When I am Old I Will Wear Purple
Jenny Joseph's 'Famous Poem'

Warning!
When I am Old
I will wear Purple!

When I am an old woman,
I shall wear purple - -
With a red hat which doesn't go,
and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandles,
And say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
and gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bells
and run with my stick along public railings,
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit!
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at ago,
or only bread and pickles for a week,
and hoard pens and pencils
and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
and pay our rent
and not swear in the street,
and set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner
and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised
when suddenly I am old,
And start to wear purple!

Next time I get to run with the group -- which will be SEPTEMBER -- I will wear my purple running shirt.
I embroidered the shirt with an (ahem!) older woman running and Marathon Makeover lettered underneath. Came out pretty cute. I probably need red shorts to go with now that I've read the poem and saw Queen's blog.

Perhaps we could have a redhat running day in September.

That's the poem for "The Red Hat Society" according to my wife who is a member of the "Brandon Bodacious Babes" Red Hatters. You have to be over fifty to be a Red Hatter, under 50 you are a "Pink Hatter." She has been a Red Hatter almost as long as, well just a long long time.
